23169 Adrian Hartley (RMC ’05) just recently concluded a successful season playing hockey in Australia for the Central Coast Rhino. Adrian was an assistant captain with the team and was one of five players honoured at the end of the season.

Ex-RMC Professor update
The husband-wife team of Francois Laguagne-Labarthet and Elizabeth Gillies have each earned Canada Research Chairs in chemistry. After Francois Lagugne-Latbarthet completed his PhD at the University of Bordeaux in 1998, he went on to do post-doctoral work at Queen’s University and the Royal Military College in Kingston to work in their physics departments. There he met Elizabeth Gillies, an undergraduate student at the time who would eventually become his wife. While Gillies earned her PhD at University of California-Berkeley, Lagugne-Latbarthet took a position as a visiting scientist there. Now they are both at Western.

Dr. Galen Perras (RMC 1986) is a diplomatic historian and an Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Ottawa. A member of the University of Ottawa faculty since 2003, he has taught or held fellowships at the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC), the University of Calgary, the University of Alberta, Bishop’s University, Carleton University and Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. He holds a MA War Studies, Royal Military College of Canada 1986 and a PhD American and Canadian History, University of Waterloo 1995. Formerly, he was a strategic analyst in the D epartment of National Defence and an archivist at Library and Archives Canada. His many publications, several of which focus on the history of Canada-US relations, include two books: Franklin Roosevelt and the Origins of the Canadian-American Security Alliance, 1933-1945 (Praeger, 1998) and Stepping Stones to Nowhere: The Aleutian Islands, Alaska, and American Military Strategy, 1867-1945 (UBC Press & Naval Institute Press, 2003) Source

10525 Lieutenant-Colonel Russell R Bassarab, CD enrolled as an Officer Cadet at The Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston. He graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree and was commissioned as a Lieutenant in The Royal Canadian Regiment. He was posted back to RMC in Kingston as a Squadron Commander. He also coached the varsity Badminton team during this time period. “Rusty” as was fondly known by friends also competed and was successful at the CF national badminton level for a number of years. He was also a solid member for a number of CFB Kingston championship hockey teams.
He attended the one year Technical Staff Course at the Royal Military School of Science in England.
Lieutenant-Colonel Bassarab served for four years as one of the Directing Staff of the Land Forces Technical Staff Programme as part of the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario. In July 2005 he took over as the Director of Land Synthetic Environments as part of LFDTS in Kingston.
“Rusty” is married to the former Ellen Cooney and they have two daughters -Lorraine and Sarah.
He “retired” from the Regular Forces on 31 Aug 08. More accurately, he did a component transfer to the Reserve Forces.
