Who Is He?

  • First posting after training was to 2 Combat Engineer Regiment in Petawawa.
  • In Petawawa, he served as a Heavy Equipment Troop Commander, a Unit Environmental Officer, DART Engineer Troop Commander and as a Course Officer for a Junior Leadership Training Course.
  • In 1997, he was deployed to aid in the domestic flood relief tasking in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
  • In 1998 he acted in the capacity of the Engineer Support Troop Commander as part of 23 Field Squadron, 1 Royal Canadian Battle Group, a NATO Mission in Bosnia-Herzogovina (SFOR); he was also assigned the duty of Battle Group Environmental Officer.
  • He was posted to the Royal Military College of Canada as he was accepted into an RMC- sponsored Geotechnical Engineering Master’s degree program.
  • At Canadian Forces Joint Head Quarters,he took on the responsibilities of the Engineering Operational Planner and DART Engineer.
  • While at the CFJHQ, he was also deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan in 2005 and acted in the capacity of the Engineer Liaison and Planning Officer as part of the Theatre Activation Team.
  • He founded and directed the RMC Green Team, a research team that addresses Environmental Engineering issues within Canadian Forces Bases and Wings, an organization that has worked at over 80 sites across Canada.
  • Recently, he co-authored a paper that won the coveted R.M. Quigley award for best paper that appeared within the Canadian Geotechnical Journal.
  • In addition to his Professional Engineering License in Ontario, he also holds a Professional Engineering License in the European Union, specifically, in Greece.

  • Clue: He recently retired from the CF and there will be a retirement ceremony taking place at the Senior Staff Mess, RMC, Kingston, Ontario on Friday, 23 September 2011, at 1430 hrs.

After 20 years of service, 19930 Major Nicholas Vlachopoulos, CD retired from the CF on 31 August 2011. Maj Vlachopoulos will continue to support the CF in his new role as an Assistant Professor within the Department of Civil Engineering at RMC.

A retirement ceremony will take place at the Senior Staff Mess, RMC, Kingston, Ontario on Friday, 23 September 2011, at 1430 hrs. Please RSVP to the retirement function coordinator Captain Matt Arndt – Matthew.Arndt@rmc.ca, (613) 541-6000 ext 6389 by 16 September. Congratulatory messages, anecdotes, and salutations can also be sent to the retirement function coordinator.

 

Après 20 ans de service, le major Nicholas Vlachopoulos, CD prendra sa retraite des FC le 31 août 2011. Maj Vlachopoulos continuera de soutenir les FC dans son nouveau rôle en tant que professeur adjoint au sein du Département de génie civil au CMR.

Une cérémonie de retraite aura lieu au Mess des Officiers et des Cadres, CMR, Kingston, Ontario le vendredi 23 septembre 2011, à 1430 heures.
