Col Reeves

Col Kristopher Reeves (RMC 2001) was recently interviewed on the RCR Association Podcast (https://www.youtube.com/@RCRAssociationPodcast). Col Reeves joined the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in 1996. He graduated from the Royal Military College of Canada in 2001 and completed regimental duty with the 1st and 3rd Battalions of The Royal Canadian Regiment in Petawawa. In 2017, he assumed command of 3 RCR.

He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal on December 20 2018 (at the rank of LCol):

Lieutenant-Colonel Reeves served as commanding officer of Joint Task Force Ukraine from September 2017 to March 2018. Known for his diplomacy and personal touch, he played a key role in expanding the training program offered to the Ukrainian Armed Forces to include sniper, medical and leadership skills development. In addition, he endeavoured to bridge strategic, operational and tactical objectives, earning the respect of superiors and subordinates alike, which contributed greatly to mission success and helped achieve Canada’s objectives in Ukraine.

Over the course of his career, he has deployed both domestically and abroad, including large domestic support operations ranging from security summits to flood relief, small unit foreign exchanges, major international exercises, two Battle Group rotations to Afghanistan and finally as Commander of Joint Task Force Ukraine/Operation UNIFIER.

In 2020, while serving in the National Capital Region as Director of Force Readiness/Canadian Army G3 and as the Senior Advisor to the Deputy Minister of National Defence, his responsibilities included coordinating several rounds of significant defence support in the Ukrainian Armed Forces and establishing several new missions, including the expansion of Canada’s land forces in Europe.

On June 28th 2024, Colonel Kris Reeves assumed command of 2 CMBG from Colonel (at that time) Jay MacKeen, MSM, CD, during a ceremony held at Garrison Petawawa.
