Roads Memories – Mutiny on Mount Benson
Our group would consist entirely of first year UTPM cadets and, as luck would have it, we were the last group to trek up the mountain late in the afternoon. Now some of the guys were immediately suspicious that what we were being given wasn’t really a bomb, as it looked more like a “ten“ foot log. However, Mike Guerrard and Rick Touchett rightly pointed out that it had to be a bomb as it was clearly marked in both official languages. “The Bomb” on one side and “Le Bomb” on the other side.

Message to the Class of 2022 from the President & Chairperson of the RMC Alumni Association
It is almost 35 years to the day since I graduated from the Royal Military College. Despite the passage of time, we have a shared experience. As the graduating class of 2022, your prep year in Saint Jean or first year in Kingston started out as any other; preparing for the obstacle course, meeting new friends, learning of the deep military history and traditions of the Colleges, learning to march on parade and so on.

To all 2022 Graduates of RMC and RMCSJ
It seems like only yesterday that we, the members of the Old Brigade, welcomed you to RMC and RMCSJ as new Preparatory or First Year Cadets. We met many of you for the first time soaking wet, exhausted but exhilarated after your Obstacle Course, or shortly after that on your Badging Parade.

Classes of 1981 and 1984 unveil Female Cadet Statue at RMC

Flint and Steel: Reflections on an Artist Residency
A pebble is tossed into still waters, and circles ripple forward. Sometimes that small stone can be gesture, an offering, a passing remark that can stay with us for years. Whenever Alan Bourassa gave a public reading of his latest work of fiction, he would begin by sharing the words of another author. Alan and I were grad students in creative writing at Concordia University. I have long been inspired by his gesture of carving out space for the words of another before sharing his own. It has been almost forty years since I last saw Alan. Never underestimate the impact of a small gesture, those stones you toss. The circles can ripple for years. For a lifetime.

Survey Field School: A Student’s Perspective
We were extremely lucky to have this opportunity to take a closer look at surveying and geomatics and to get this hands-on experience using the equipment. This course has taught us valuable lessons, lessons which we will be able to apply later in our careers both during and after our time with the Canadian Armed Forces. From learning from our mistakes to helping others figure out theirs, and through learning as a class and as a team, the past two weeks have been an incredible experience that we are all grateful to have been a part of.
