RMC Class of ’69: Annual Invitational Golf Week 2025
The 2025 Class of ’69 golf classic took place the week of 15-21 June. This was the 25th such gathering since the beginning in California in 2000, having missed only in 2020 due to Covid concerns.
Marking 85 Years: The Founding and Legacy of Royal Roads
First known as HMCS Royal Roads, the college began as a wartime naval training institution, providing young Canadian officers with the skills and discipline needed for service during a time of global crisis. But Royal Roads quickly grew into something much more: a symbol of tri-service education, leadership development, and national commitment to the professional formation of Canadian Armed Forces officers.
MASAKARI 25: Canadian and Japanese militaries strengthen cyber defences
“This activity represented more than an operational milestone—it reflected our collective will to shape a secure and rules-based digital environment,” said Major-General Dave Yarker (RMC 1993), Commander of CAFCYBERCOM. “MASAKARI 25 built practical cyber interoperability and strengthened a trusted partnership between Canada and Japan. Together, we advanced persistent engagement in a region where cyber threats increasingly test the resolve of open societies.”
Naval Reserve supports training delivery for RMC Cadets
Over the summer, twenty-four naval cadets (NCdts) from the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) have been busy between Kingston and the West Coast, taking part in the Naval Environmental Training Program for Officers (NETPO).
This year’s program marked an interesting departure from tradition. For the first time in recent history, NETPO was delivered in partnership with the Naval Reserve, leveraging its expertise, facilities, and coordination efforts to provide a more flexible, modular program closer to home. As a result, portions of the course were delivered at HMCS Cataraqui, the local Naval Reserve Division of Kingston, Ont.
The History Department is proud to announce the appointment of Professor Roch Legault as Professor Emeritus
A member of the department since 1992, Professor Legault joined the Royal Military College as a specialist in Canadian military history. Throughout his career, he made significant contributions to the department’s reputation through his extensive research. Highly regarded by students, he also stood out as a dedicated and passionate educator, achieving the rank of full professor in 2015.

Digital Simulations
The simulation was designed and developed by Professor Walter Dorn (Department of Defence Studies at RMC and CFC). He is an operational professor who has served in UN missions and regularly visited them for over 20 years. Six years ago, during a sabbatical, he started exploring the new medium of digital simulation. He wanted to offer scenario-based learning to students in his courses on peace operations. To develop digital simulations, he created a team of a dozen researchers and developers who looked at UN operations and identified important lessons before gamifying them through the Unity Game Engine.
