The first women’s cohort at Canada’s military colleges learned that changing laws are not synonymous with changing culture—and those same issues apply today
I persevered because I knew that walking away would make it easy to conclude that the “experiment of women cadets hadn’t worked.” But it ran deeper than that. I also stayed to prove to myself and everyone else that I was smart enough, strong enough, and “good” enough to be a valuable contributing member in a traditionally male-dominated world. Sadly, I carried the belief for decades that I needed to prove I was “one of the boys” to add value in my work environments and my world. It took time for me to learn to be comfortable in my skin and with my own way of interacting with the world.
Help Us Shape the Next Generation of Canadian Leaders / Aidez-nous à façonner la prochaine génération de chefs de file canadiens
“There is a clear ‘before RMC’ and ‘after RMC’ in my own leadership journey. Nearly every alumnus I speak with shares the belief that those formative years at the College shaped us into stronger, more confident leaders. For me, RMC was undoubtedly one of the most significant influences—perhaps the most significant—on any professional success I have achieved since. My donations, both early and recent, have been made as an expression of gratitude to the institution that gave me so much.” – 18060 Dr. Pascal Becotte CMR RMC 1992

RMC’s very own Dr. Sean Maloney has a new book!
Nuclear signaling is defined as the deliberate maneuvering of nuclear forces to deter and influence an adversary’s actions. Author Sean Maloney shows how Russian leader Vladimir Putin has systematically employed nuclear signaling to force desired behavior from both NATO and the United States. This strategy has escalated greatly during the Russo-Ukraine War as Putin seeks to deter Western intervention and support of Ukraine.
Guardians of the North Book Review
This new offering is a volume of surpassing beauty, both in the crisp book design and layout of the text, and especially in the painstaking detail of Karl’s drawings. The compilation of a complete series of profile views of all classes of ships having served the RCN and its predecessor fleets, as well as supporting auxiliaries, is a magisterial accomplishment. That this includes the associated aircraft of the RCN and RCAF, embarked as well as shore-based maritime patrol, means that this is a visual collection of unparalleled breadth.
